Why do so many people think Jay Z is a good lyricist?

Eh, I'm with you. I think people just automatically thrust that title on him because his reputation precedes him and he's had a lot of commercial success. I don't see anything in him but he is decently prolific and has had incredible longevity. Finally, most people I talk to say his lyrics are "powerful and meaningful"... take that how you want.
